Passed away at the age of 91 on Monday, December 11, 2006. He resided, since February 2006, at the F.J. Davey Home. He was a jeweller, watch repairman, diamond-setter and purveyor of fine china for more than half a century at 536 Queen St. E. “Be on time all the time with a watch from Whalen’s Credit Jewellers.” He followed in the footsteps of his late father, W. Lawrence Whalen, and his two brothers, Rosswell and Ellsworth. The family business operated for 75 years until 1982. His late mother, Alice, was also a strong influence in his life. Pre-deceased by his wife Dorothy (2002), and his two brothers (1970). Maintaining a civic interest in many aspects of the community, Gren was an elder at St. Andrew’s United Church, a past Master of the Masonic Order, a Shriner, a Sault Greyhounds and Royal Canadian Legion supporter, and a founding member of the Queenstown Association. Many challenged adults and children enjoyed his support each Thursday at the Verdi Hall until he was into his 89th year. Gren will always be remembered as “Dad” by Dene Clarke, as a friend by Charles H. Vaillancourt (Carol), Grandpa to David and Steven. He was respected for his positive outlook on life by John Grant and loved every day of his life by his daughter Milan. “The clock of life only gets wound once. Live, laugh and love.” Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, December 15, 2006 from 9 am until time of service in the chapel at 11 am. Rev.
