VEKICH, Mark John - It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Son and Brother Mark on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Sault Area Hospital at the age of 60. Mark is finally at peace after a lifelong battle with diabetes.

Precious son of Anne and the late Frank. Loving brother of Michele (Husband Zoltan Virag). Dear Grandson of the late Michael Hukovich and the late John and Mary Vekich. Dear nephew/cousin of the late Mary Zeppa (late George) and Bill and Anne Farrell and family. Mark will be missed by cousins Kristine Ouellet (Denis), Christian Ouellet (Erica) and is now reunited with his late cousin Mikayla Ouellet.

Mark was a one of a kind character that had friends from all walks of life. His nutty sense of humour and his storytelling will be missed by friends from Toronto to Vancouver to Sault Ste. Marie.  Mark was an intelligent and inquisitive person with many hobbies during his lifetime. He loved history, space travel/rocket building and HAM radio communication. He was a collector and loved to be surrounded by his interests.

Stricken with Juvenile diabetes at a very early age Mark had many hills to climb in his life. He faced these with humour and really knew how to laugh at himself.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Renal clinic at SAH as well as the nurses and staff of 2C. Mark spent a lot of time in hospital in the last year of his life and liked to joke that he was Mayor there.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Memorial contributions payable by cheque or online in Mark’s name may be made to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Renal Care Fund, Canadian Diabetes Association or Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society.  Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.

Your trials in life are over – rest easy Mark. Until we meet again!!
