VAUGHAN, Ruby May - We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother Ruby Vaughan on Monday, March 4, 2024, 22 days short of her 90th birthday.

She was the wife of the late Cy Vaughan.  Mother of Lorna Greene, Anne Kokkinen (Hans), Susan Haldenby (Griff), Gerald Vaughan (Jo-Anne), the late Jim Vaughan (Mel), Heather Brockelbank (Parker) and Jackie Junor (Jim).  Grandmother of Sarah Bates (Aaron), Hayley Sabourin (Charlie), Andy (Esther), Jari Kokkinen (Laurie), Kaija Kokkinen, April Bond (Dave), Griffie Haldenby (Lindsey), Clifton Vaughan (Stacey), Benjamin Vaughan, Phylicia Ferster (Nathan), Malerie Evoy (Bill), Courtney Vaughan (DJ), Neil Brockelbank (Melissa), late Joshua Brockelbank, Cameron Brockelbank (Brooke), Zack Junor (Krysten), and Emilya Junor.  Great grandmother of 29.  She was born to May and Howard Hurley in Echo Bay.  Sister of the late Marie Orchard (late Bernard), late Clara Hodgkinson (late Dan), late Bill Hurley (late Pat), late Ross Hurley (late Marj, Margaret), late Mabel Coulter (late Barney) and Don Hurley (Judy).  Sister-in-law of Beaulah Gamble (late Roy), Elvin Vaughan (Max) and Harold Vaughan.  Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Ruby was a lifelong member of the Echo Bay United Church.  During her years there, she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, was a member of the UCW, led the mid week group CGIT and served on the board.  She displayed her over 400 nativity sets, many of which were gathered during her travels around the world, in the church basement during the Christmas season.  She enjoyed many years performing with the Gordon Christie Singers. Her greatest joy was that of being a teacher.  In 1996, the year she retired, she was selected as one of the top 10 teachers in Ontario, sponsored by the Toronto Sun.  Ruby gave 100% to her interests.

Thanks to the staff at Maple View over the last six years as she suffered from Alzheimers.
