After a long and healthy life and a brief illness, passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the age of 88.
Beloved husband of Chris for more than 62 years. Loving father of Liisa Tuominen, Janice Johnston (Matthew) and Noreen Yeates (Alan). Cherished Tuffa to Declan, Curtis, Cameron and Jared. Born to Laina and Matti Tuominen. Dear brother of Nancy and Edwin (Noreen).
Following a successful accounting career at Algoma Steel, Elmer spent his long retirement with Chris travelling, xc skiing, volunteering, snow shoveling and fixing things. Together they enjoyed 38 years of cottage life including family time, entertaining and cycling. A man of honour, integrity and Finnish sisu - a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed.
Friends are invited to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E - 705-759-2522) on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Memorial service from the chapel at 1 pm. Rev. Eun-Joo Park officiating. Inurnment St. Luke's Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (payable by cheque) to St. Andrew's United Church or to Trillium Gift of Life Network.
