It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rick Sturgeon at Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 64, after a brave battle with cancer.
Beloved husband of Lauretta Sturgeon. Father of Elisa Muto (nee Sturgeon), Rosilyn Sturgeon, Ciara Theriault, and the late Joel Emond. Grandfather of Carmen Muto. Son of Jean Perry and the late Daniel Sturgeon, Stepson of the late Randy Perry. Brother of Susan Sturgeon, Donald Sturgeon (Monique), Lynn Sturgeon (Barbara). Uncle to 3 nieces and 3 nephews. Nephew and cousin to a large extended family. Best friend of Russell Lidstone (Linda).
Rick grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and worked at Algoma Steel for 41 years. Rick enjoyed spending many summers camping with friends and family at Ojibway Park, Searchmont, and on St. Joseph Island. Rick’s sense of humour, sharp wit and comedic timing put a smile on many of those who shared his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. Rick’s humble and kind disposition endeared him to many.
Though the vessel of his soul has sailed on, his love for his family and friends lives on.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering will take place at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522) on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 2 pm until 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to ARCH or Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated. Interment will be in the spring at Cloudslee Cemetery.
