Passed away peacefully at the Finnish Resthome on Friday, May 14, 2010 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Gladys for 58 years. Loving father of Karl Morin-Strom (Bernadette), Eric Strom (Margaret), Nancy Jarvis (Mike) and Sandra Strom-Thibodeau (Brent). Special grandfather of Marie, Karin and Ingrid Morin-Strom, Adam, Erica and Neil Strom, Kyle and Katrina Thibodeau, and great-grandfather of Gus Morin-Strom. Son of the late Oscar and Hilma Strom. Caring brother of the late Astrid Marinich (late Jockey), late Arne (Terry), Leonard (Anna and the late Gerri) and Elmer (Dorothy). Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Alvar was born in Nestorville, ON and moved to Sault Ste. Marie at the age of 16 with his family. Al worked at the Abitibi/St. Marys Paper Mill for 41 years. He loved spending time with his family at their camp on Goulais Bay and enjoyed travelling, gardening, carpentry and sports. Al especially loved the outdoors and was an avid walker. The family would like to thank the staff at the Finnish Resthome for their loving care and concern given to Al for the last 18 months. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be celebrated at the Zion Lutheran Church on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jouko Jyrkama officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
