STEFANO, Franco

March 14, 1942- April 7, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Franco who died unexpectedly but peacefully in his 81st year at home after a long courageous battle with several health issues, surrounded by his loving family.

Franco is survived by his loving wife Rosa of 56 years and his five children, Amedeo (Christina), Joe (Chris), Marcello (Jessica), Nicole Di Filippo (Jaime) and Nick.  Cherished Nonno of Alysha (Jake), Jesse, Sonya (Jarrod), Kayla (Payton), Hannah (Ethan), Kayla and Hunter Olar. Adored Bis Nonno of Jace, Addison and our angel in heaven Aubree.

He is predeceased by his parents Amedeo and Nicoletta Stefano.  Much loved brother of the late Gina Scovino (Giovanni) and late Ida Santoro (Giovanni) and the late Sergio Stefano (Angela). Being the last surviving member of his family, he is now re-united with his parents and siblings. The circle is now complete.

Franco will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada and in Italy.

Franco was born in Paola, Cosenza and immigrated to Canada in 1964 where he started his career as an employee of Algoma Steel. The love of his life, Rosa, joined him in 1966 and this is where their life story began.

Frank liked to putter around the garage with woodworking and has created many masterpieces in his lifetime. He loved gardening! He had a passion that even exhaustion could not stop him from enjoying. Every year his garden grew bigger and bigger, and his creativity blossomed.  He took pride and was known for his Soppressatta.  Frank's greatest treasure was his family. His love for his family was shown in numerous ways with love in his heart.

Franco’s family would like to thank all the caregivers and medical team who helped Franco through his battle.  A special thank you goes out to the paramedics, Elizabeth Papilla (CBI) and Beverley Notte (Bayshore) for their compassion on his final day.

Franco fought a good fight, has now earned his angel wings and his eternal resting place. He was loved and will be missed forever. Rest In Peace.
