Words cannot express the incredible sadness that we are left with as we announce the passing of Marcel on Thursday, April 25 at the age of 52.

He was many things throughout life: a devoted son, a pillar of strength as a brother, a loving husband, a proud and caring dad, and a true and loyal friend.

Husband and best friend of Julianne, he was loving, honest, loyal, and hardworking. He was a family man who always kept his promises,  first and foremost.  After years of marriage, he still couldn’t wait to spend time with his wife enjoying camping, working outside or sharing his love of music. Of all his adventures, Marcel cherished one above all: our family cruise to the Bahamas and Mexico last year. Those precious days marked his first big trip, brimming with unforgettable experiences, all the more memorable with him donning his signature neon orange shirt, ensuring we could always spot him in the crowd.

Loving, strong, fun, dad of Megan Spooner (Ryan). Marcel loved to talk endlessly about his daughter’s  accomplishments and travels. Sometimes you would have to drag him away to get him to stop. He was so thrilled to tell everyone that even with all of her accomplishments both academically and professionally, at the end of the day, she still drove just like him, potty mouth and all.

Predeceased by his parents Leonard and Janet Spooner. Son-in-law to Barbara and the late Percy Fillion. Brother of Debbie Lewis (Ron) and Don Spooner. Brother-in-law to Kathy Dickinson (Jay) and Mary Deschene (Paul). Uncle to nephews late Waylan, Brandan, Kevin, Mark, Cody and Brett. In a lifetime of escapades with his best friend and brother, Mark Johnson, it's a wonder he made it this far. From childhood to today, their adventures were often fueled by questionable judgment, creating unforgettable stories to tell everyone!

He will be fondly remembered by cousins, and many camping friends and families. Thank you to some special friends that have played important parts in our lives: Mark and Nathalie Johnson, Steve and Lee-Ann Barrett, and Frankie Ingram.

We want to honour him with a service, where all emotions are welcomed and encouraged. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St, SSM) from 2 - 3:30 p.m. A service will take place in the chapel at 3:30 p.m. with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating.

Marcel would have wanted us to gather together, being authentic and genuine, while honouring his life. Wear your favourite work wear brands like Dewalt, Carhartt, CAT, or Dickies – if it's what you wore to work hard, play hard, and get dirty, it's the perfect tribute to Marcel. Bring photos and memories to share at the funeral, creating a collage of memories that reflects the impact Marcel had on each of us.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the staff at Sault Area Hospital with special thank you to Stacey in ICU. Thank you to the anonymous AZ Driver, Ted and paramedics who responded swiftly.

Due to family allergies, the family kindly asks please no flower deliveries.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St., Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6A 1P7, 705-759-8456).
