SOYAT(February 26,1923---March 13, 2011) After a brief illness at Sault Area Hospital with his family at his side. John served from 1939-1945 in WWII and was most honoured to receive his Holland Liberation Medal for Christmas in 2010 He retired from Algoma Steel after 40 years and in his retirement enjoyed walking and bs ing with the boys in the Mall and the Fishermen on the Boardwalk. He sadly missed his beloved wife Velma, ( September 13, 1926—February 11, 2010) who died suddenly and tragically on the banks of the St Marys River after a short illness. Her loss is also shared by her brother, Victor Hupka (late Elsie) She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Sally. Velma was a dedicated Nurse and enjoyed her retirement years reading, gardening and travelling. As per her request she was cremated and interred in the family plot. John and Velma are survived by their children Catherine Hornstein (Henry), Evelyn Clargo (Ray) and Paul Soyatt (Charlene) and their Grandchildren Kip, Angel, Sarah, Kari, Andrew, Joshua and Kevin and their four great grandchildren. John is survived by his brother Frank and predeceased by Dorothy Krmpotich, Milan, George, Nick and Rose Becanic. In keeping with his wishes John has been cremated and laid beside his loving wife in the family plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. During his six weeks in hospital , John had nothing but praise and admiration for the nursing staff. Thank you to Dr. Fritz for his many years of care and deep gratitude to Grandson Andrew for the countless hours spent at John’s side.
