Passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the age of 61. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Smith of Sault Ste. Marie. Paul will be remembered and sorely missed by his children Paul Smith (Sherry), Lorraine Ben (Robert) and Martin Smith (Brandee). Proud grandfather of Briar Smith, McKenna Smith and Nicolas Ben. He leaves behind many siblings in Canada, Ireland, England and Australia. He has a special place in his heart for his sister in law Sylvia Nesbitt and brother-in-law Liam Nesbitt and his brother-in-law David Sandlin (Joni and Jake). He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Paul met his wife Shirley Sandlin, whom he married in 1965 and together they started their family. In the face of tremendous social unrest and adversity, they moved their young family to Alabama in 1972 and ultimately settled in Sault Ste. Marie surrounded by their friends and family. Paul was a devoted and loved brother, husband, father and friend to many in the community. His sense of humour, generosity and kind spirit will be forever missed. An intimate gathering of family and close friends will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Monday, February 12, 2007 from 11 am until time of funeral service in the chapel at 1 pm.
