SMITH, Donald

Don passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2024, at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by his family. He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Wanda Hari, and Wanda’s children, Deborah (Dave) Spina, Suzanne (Paul) Guindon, and Jason (Danielle) Hari. Predeceased by his parents CO and Jean Smith.

He was Grandpa to Noah (Samantha) Spina, Stephen (Kasey) Guindon, Gabriel (Rebecca) Spina, Ryan (Kaylie) Guindon, and Rowan Hari, who all have very fond memories of time spent in Goulais with Grandpa. He spent many hours building bonfires for wiener roasts, pulling the boys behind the snowmobile, and helping with Easter egg hunts and Halloween trails in the backyard bush.

Don worked with the Ford company for many years, starting at the young age of 18 and retiring from Highland Ford in 2008 at the age of 66. He wore his Ford jacket and ballcap with much pride. The true joy of his life was the time spent with his friends and buddies on their hunting and fishing trips. Their many adventures took them to lakes and forests all over the Algoma region. In the past few years, Don looked back at these memories with fondness and cherished each one.

Wanda and the family would like to thank Don’s friend, John Gareau, for all his support and assistance over the past few months. John was a true friend to Don and there for him and the family when they needed help. Thank you, John.

A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU for their compassion and kindness.

At Don’s request, there will be no funeral services and cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
