Sillanpää, Violet (nee Tuomi) July 31, 1919 – June 8, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Violet Sillanpää, in her 94th year, on June 8, 2013 at the Finnish Rest Home (Mauno Kaihla Koti).

Violet was predeceased by her husband, Vaino Erikki Sillanpää in 1967.

She was the proud and loving mother of her three boys, Eric (Mary) of Sault Ste. Marie; William (late Linda) of Chilliwack, BC; and Victor (Linda) of High River, AB; and to her infant  daughter the late Linda, who survived only a few short hours after her birth in 1948.

Beloved Mummu and Great-Mummu to Kaija Sillanpää and her daughter Kaytie.

Cherished Grandma and Great-Grandma to Peter Petrovic (Jevona) and daughter Marissa; Tara Cross (Steve) and daughters Emma and Julia; Morgan Petrovic.

Adored Grandma and Great-Grandma to Laura Byers (Jess) and their children Asher and Cole; Nicholas Sillanpää; and Monica Bennett (Chad).

Violet was predeceased by her parents Matti and Anna Tuomi, and her six siblings: Arvi Tuomi (1931), Aarne Tuomi (1907)Vieno Nauha (2001), Voitto Tuomi (1972), Vilho Tuomi (1995), Venni Herranen (April 2013).  She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 10 am until 11:30.  Funeral Service to be held in the chapel at 12 pm.  Rev. Patrick McManus officiating.  Interment Woodland Cemetery, Wawa, Ontario.

The Sillanpää family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Mauno Kaihla Koti, and Kotitalo.  You treated our mother and grandmother with kindness and compassion allowing her to maintain her dignity right until her passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Violet’s memory to the Ontario Finnish Rest Home Association Uusi Koti – A New Home Campaign would be appreciated.
