Maria Schampers passed away peacefully at the Tendercare Nursing Home on Thursday, March 13, 2003 in her 88th year. Predeceased in 1987 by her husband Toon (Tony) Schampers. Beloved mother and dear companion of Frances Barker (Mike). Dearest ?Nanny? of Jennifer Foster (Curtis) of Boulter, Ontario; Christine Ives of Leamington, Ontario; and Heather Wellings (Paul) of London, Ontario. Proud and devoted great grandmother of Jordon Ives, Adrianna Wellings, Michael Foster and Alicia Wellings. Predeceased by 6 sisters and one brother all of Eindhoven, Holland. Marie will be remembered by her many friends from the years when the family managed the Clubhouse at the Sault Golf and Country Club and then owned and operated the Northgate Hotel and Restaurant at Montreal River Harbour, Ontario. A resident at the Tendercare Nursing Home for the last 8 years she was known with great affection by the excellent staff and her friends there for her plainspoken honesty and earthy good humour. Her family was continually blessed by the unfailing strength of her character during her years of infirmity, by her interest in their lives, and deep love for them. She was an anchor around which the family vessel was moored and clear proof that love offered will be returned ten-fold. Her quiet passing was as she wished, in the arms of her daughter and son-in-law. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Sunday, March 16, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 135 Arden Street, on Monday, March 17, at 10:00 am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
