SAARELA, Lauri Nestor

Posted

The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Lauri in his sleep at the Finnish Resthome, Mauno Kaihla Koti, (MKK) on Saturday, April 15, 2006. He is survived by his wife Maria Irma Saarela (Schnablegger), son Gunther Saarela and wife Margaret (Holt) and grandson Greg Saarela. Brother of Margaret Swift, Martha Dalla-Vicenza (Jones), late Eino, late George and the late Albert. Brother in law to Jack Swift, Dieter Kreps, Cilli (Lucy) Schnablegger, Johanna (Joan) Schnablegger, Dolly Saarela of Iron Bridge and Annaliese Haring of Austria, Europe. Also survived by many nieces and nephews of the Saarela, Swift, Jones and Schnablegger families of Sault Ste. Marie and throughout Canada, USA and Austria in Europe. Cremation with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery with immediate family only at his final resting place. There he will find eternal peace after working hard most of his life from an early age until he retired from Algoma Contractors at the age of 65 and lived almost to the age of 93. In his later years he built a cottage with his partner Maria on Lake Superior which was their pride and joy. Visually impaired from early age and with little education he managed to create a good life and legacy for his family and for that we are proud. Maria and Gunther thank the Finnish Resthome staff, especially the caregivers for the care and consideration shown to Lauri. Since Dad was visually and hearing impaired, it was difficult at times. The family would appreciate donations on behalf of Lauri Saarela to go to the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association (MKK).
