RUSNELL, Barry Walter

Posted

Rusnell

After a courageous battle with cancer, Barry passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 19, 2021 at the age of 71. We take great comfort knowing that he is now reunited with Granny and Gramps.

Barry is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Betty, of 45 years, and his loving children Shawn, Nicole (Scott Constable), and Kevin (Emily Staite). Proud grandpa of Megan & Emma Constable, and baby Niles who brought him so much joy. Deeply mourning his passing are his mother Marjorie Cowley (late Gerry), siblings Dale Godfrey (Paul), Gerry Cowley (Joanne), Kim Hankinson (late Rob), Doug Cowley, and Todd Cowley (Jannie). Brother-in-law of Bob Woolley (Ginette), Marlene (Phil Swire), Chris Woolley (Denys Eurich). Predeceased by his parents-in-law Jan and Art Woolley. Special uncle of many nieces and nephews and their children. Barry will be dearly missed by his many long-time friends.

Born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario, Barry met the girl of his dreams and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in the mid 1970’s. In his younger years, Barry was active in the community, volunteering his time for Bon Soo events, the Brier Curling Championship, and many other events. He was one heck of a salesman who loved his customers at Prouse Motors. He found tremendous joy in life’s simple pleasures - playing golf with family and friends, relaxing and watching TV, being with his grandchildren, and cooking and baking for his family.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Masks are mandatory. Please maintain social distancing of six feet and the use of hand sanitizer is appreciated. A private family service will be held. Memorial donations to United Way Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to thank Barry’s oncology team at the Sault Area Hospital, and all the wonderful doctors and nurses who cared for Barry in his final days. www.northwoodfuneral.com
