It is with profound sadness that the family of Harold “BUD” Robinson announce his passing on January 8 2022; one day after his 87th birthday.

Bud will be forever missed by Carol Robinson (Walton), the love of his life for over 50 years.  Also left to mourn his passing are his son Gregory Robinson (Melinda), daughter Debbie Storey (Chuck), brother Roy Tanner and sister Sherry Bouchard (John). Dearly missed “Papa” to Jason (Samantha), Sarah Guzzo (Frank), Jennifer, Veronica, and the apple of his eye in his later years, Danica.  Bud’s passing will also be grieved by his many nieces and nephews, as well as his close friends Skip MacKinnon and Bill Tucker.  He is predeceased by his daughter Laurie Williamson (Brian), in-laws Stewart and Frances Walton, and sisters Elva McLean (Joe Mihalich), Sharon Smith (Ray) and brother Ron Tanner.

Aside from his greatest accomplishment of raising a family, Bud’s career achievements span over sixty years.  From his humble beginnings as a dockhand, to entering the auto industry, Bud always had the respect of his peers. He also had a strong sense of community, as he was a keen supporter of and involved with various local charities and organizations.

Bud made his initial mark on the auto industry in the early days, when a handshake became a bond, when bills of sale were acceptably scribbled on scrap paper, bar napkins, or cigarette packages and trade-ins were not only cars, but hogs, chickens and cattle. His success as a salesman and manager eventually lead to the purchase of Travelade Motors, which was fondly referred to by the local auto circuit as “The Dodge Boys.”  In 1976, Travelade Motors became a regional flagship store for Toyota; this was Bud’s fondest achievement, as it was because of his keen business acumen that the Toyota product gained popularity in the Northern Ontario market, in a time where purchasing domestic was highly-favoured.

Bud went on to acquire AMC Jeep Renault and the original Datsun dealership, forming Tri-Centre Auto and Robin Motors.  After 18 years, Bud moved into semi-retirement and Bud Robinson Used Cars was born; this allowed Bud more free time, working “only” six days per week.  The store still proudly serves the loyal customers of Sault Ste. Marie under the guidance of his son, Greg. Greg has carried on Bud’s notorious legacy by expanding the business to include Robinson Motorsports, carrying Kawasaki, Suzuki and CF Moto products. It has been said that “the legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.”  The Bud Robinson name will continue to live on in the community as a symbol of quality salesmanship and an entire family of customers and employees sharing a common bond.  Bud’s presence will not soon be forgotten, and will be felt for years to come, as he looks over us from above. He will be immeasurably missed, and his legacy will be upheld with honour.

Much gratitude to the health care workers both in-home and at Sault Area Hospital; your compassion and commitment to providing quality care are so appreciated.  Special thanks to Jason Richards; your dedication and reliability were a blessing.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Due to extenuating circumstances of COVID-19 restrictions, the family has opted to hold a celebration of life at a later time.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bud’s memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Robinson family.

Rest in peace to our companion, father and friend.
