Rev. Alvin ARMSTRONG

Born 1911, son of Gilbert and Eliza (Wigmore) Armstrong, Echo Bay, Ontario, passed away in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in his 102nd year. Beloved husband of Wilma (Goodison) Armstrong for 71 years. Loving father of Richard (Lois) Armstrong, Florida; James (Ann) Armstrong, California; and Judith (Larry) Hamende, Calgary, Alberta. Alvin will be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Curtis Armstrong; late Bruce (late Ella) Armstrong; Bess (late Joe) Lowery, Edmonton, Alberta; Ruth (Joe) Draper, Kitchener, Ontario. Loved Uncle of Stuart (Jean) Armstrong, Echo Bay, Ontario; David (Anne) Armstrong;  Donna ( late Ken) Wilcox, Windsor, Ontario; Stan (Elizabeth) White, Calgary, Alberta; Elizabeth (Randy) Berends, Edmonton, Alberta; John, Bill, Joe and Jo-Ann Draper. Alvin had pastorates in Blenheim, Sudbury, Toronto and Welland, and he taught for 11 years at Toronto Bible College. He was a staff writer for the Kingston-Whig Standard and a columnist for the Blenheim News-Tribune. After his retirement in 1974, he had interim ministeries at several churches and was conferred Minister Emeritus at Erie United Church. He was the author of 10 books including: From Buckskin to Broadloom about the early history of the Kingston area; and The First 200 Years, a history of the Blenheim and South Harwich areas. Visitation is at McKinlay Funeral Home in Blenheim on Friday, October 19th from 2 – 4 pm. And 7 – 9 pm. Funeral service at Blenheim Baptist Church on Saturday, October 20th at 1:30 pm. Officiated by Rev. Bill Terris and Rev. Kenneth Jackson. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim, Ontario.
