RAINS, Doris 'Dorry' (NEE MACKAY)

Peacefully at Algoma Residential Community Hospice, on December 3, 2013 after a courageous two year battle with cancer, Doris Rains at the age of 79. Originally from Moncton, New Brunswick she was the beloved wife of Byron for 58 years. Loving mother of Steve (Tracey), Mark (Jane), Karen Barban (Perry) and Brad (Jenny). Grandmother of Tyler, Kylie, Meghan, Courtney, Kendall and Micah. Survived by her brother George (Qualicum Beach, BC) and sister Margaret (Moncton). Sister in law to Connie and Gerry Rahn (St. Joseph’s Island) and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Ruby MacKay and siblings Gordon, Charles, John, Lewis, Esther and Eileen. Friends may call at a Service of Remembrance at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church 1643 Wellington St E on Sunday December 8th at 2pm, officiated by Reverend Patrick McMannus. A celebration of Dorry’s life will follow over food and refreshments at the church. Following cremation, remains will be interred at Holy Trinity Church, Jocelyn Township St. Joseph’s Island in the spring at a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers donations to ARCH or St. Matthew’s church Break Out Fund would be appreciated by the family. The Rains family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful volunteers and staff at ARCH for making Dorry’s last days comfortable, and comforting for her family. Also to the homecare PSWs and nurses who cared for Dorry while she remained comfortable in her home, especially Jennifer Smith RN. A very heart-felt thank you to PSW Jennifer Cruikshank for her amazingly compassionate care and devotion that always went above and beyond. Dorry had a special bond with you and we will never forget how you cared for her. As well, our gratitude to Reverend McMannus for his compassion and kindness. Dorry was an avid bridge player for the 55 years that she lived in the Soo and will be greatly missed by her many bridge partners and card-playing companions at the Seniors Centre and throughout the Soo.
