With great sorrow we announce the passing of Sam Rainone on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 89 after a life well lived. Despite being born during a depression and dying during a pandemic Sam viewed life as a wonderful gift mainly due to family and the people you find along the way.
Sam is survived by his love and best friend for the last 65 years Joan (Kennedy). He was the father of Tim, Steve (Marilyn), late Paul, Mark (Kim) and the late Lori. He was the grandfather of Laine Bertin (Riley), Alisha Denneny , Jorden Rainone (Cindy), Samantha Rainone, Joshua Rainone and Corey Rainone, He was the great-grandfather of Elijah and Jack Bertin, Cole and Drew Denneny, Sam and Grant Rainone, Milana and the late Cruz Rainone. Sam was the youngest and last surviving member of the original Rainone family in Sault Ste. Marie. He was predeceased by his father Carmen and mother Antoinette (Fera), brothers Tony (late Florence), Mike, Louie and sisters Connie Fredericks (late Evald), Angelina McQuire (late Neil) and Phyllis Miners. Survived by his sister-in-law Hazel. Son-in-law of the late Everett and Margaret Kennedy. Sam was the brother-in-law of the late Joe and late Shirley Diodati, late Garnet Kennedy, Karen Tahti (Murray), Lois Scali, Phyllis and Ted Jarosz. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sam spent his life repairing cars and trucks from the 1930's to current day. He worked right up to the age of 88 when prostate and lung cancer slowed him down. For seventy years he ran his business the old fashion way where his word and handshake was the only contract needed. He always treasured his West End roots. All the money in the world could not buy the fun and bond of community. He would often correct people noting that the west end was Gore Street to #2 Gate. Sam loved music and spent many years as a drummer with the Tony Dionisi and Frank Guzzo Bands. His children knew the words of every Frank Sinatra song as it was the only tape in the tape deck on long trips. Sam had a special connection with all people young and old. He saw the good and appreciated the uniqueness in all people. He was generous to a fault and always had a soft spot for people down on their luck. We would like to thank the quality health care that allowed our father to leave this world from his own bed in his own house. Particularly with the current pandemic conditions. A special thank you to Dr. Booth, Dr. Lam, Dr. Mathur and Dr. Jarret, the two Suzies from Bayshore and the PSW's who made our father as comfortable as possible in his final days.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions a private family service has been held. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to the Canadian Cancer Society or ARCH would be appreciated by the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date when the world returns to normal. Well my roll is over. It is time to pass the dice. Take care of each other.
