On the stormy afternoon of Saturday, December 11, 2021, the centre of our world was unexpectedly taken from us. With his loving family, he passed peacefully into the waiting arms of his cherished mother and father, Jean and Hector Pozzo, whom are now reunited with their Angel.

He leaves behind his one true love, Del (McAuley-Pozzo). Their journey began in high school and carried on for 60 years of wonderful adventures together. Left to fill the void and carry on his masterful story and joke telling are his three Bellas, Julie Hazelton (Barry), Trisha Sartor (Ronnie) and Shannon Pasheri (Mark). Barry leaves behind his three special sons-in-law, whom were like the sons he never had.  He would be comforted to know that his girls will be well taken care of.  He was the proudest papa to Mitchell and Daniel Hazelton and Kassandra and Christian Sartor, whom he loved to share his life stories and lessons while instilling in them his incredible work ethic.  He will be reunited with his older brother, Jim and dearly missed by his cherished sister, Geraldine Yeo.  Brother-in-law to Doreen Pozzo, the late Jim McAuley (late Arlene), and Betty Tucker (Thomas). He will be dearly missed by his Aunt Josette Pozzo and his many close cousins, nieces and nephews. His life-long friends, Geri and Norman Ciotti and Linda Infanti will miss the many fun times spent together.  Mel, Pat, Cheryl, Leonard Mizzi and their families, as well as his close friends and former colleagues, will fondly remember his quick wit and bigger-than-life personality.

A lesson he learned from his parents early in life was taking care of anything and everyone he could.   Barry took care of his many family and friends and helped protect the Sault as a police officer, ending his 30 year career as chief inspector of detectives . “Big Bear”, as everyone knew him, brought much conversation and laughter to any occasion. He was known for his jokes, storytelling, and his infinite wisdom on all things. A passion, more like obsession, was his beloved Detroit Tigers!  Inspired by his father, was his life-long love of hockey. Both these sports were a big part of his life and many games became a topic of conversation. From an early age he loved tinkering with anything that had wheels and a motor. Anyone who knew Barry knew his happiest times were spent teaching his children and grandchildren how to “accomplish” something while he imparted life’s important lessons. Barry’s helpful nature will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. You can guarantee that he will always be a guardian angel to guide you!

Thanks to Sault Area Hospital for their care and compassion, especially Dr. Jim, Dr. Bakar, Dr. Kargbo, Dr. Ghosh, and staff. A special thank you to nurse Robin Kennedy-Dechamplain (our Angel) for all your help.

As per Barry’s wishes a private service was held at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). The family would like to thank Rev. Phil Miller for his comforting words.  They would like to also thank the Arthur’s staff for their compassion and guidance during this difficult time. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) may be made to SAHF- Medical Imaging, ARCH or a  charity of your choice.  Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family.
