It is with heavy hearts that we announce that John “Cheechee” Piromalli passed peacefully surrounded by his family on October 25th, 2023.

Beloved husband and best friend of Carmel Piromalli who enjoyed 60 years of adventures and love together. Son of the late Mary and John Piromalli and father of David Piromalli (Margaret Piromalli) and Cheryl Mackin (Joseph Mackin). Proud grandfather of Jenna Piromalli, Kelsey Mackin, Riley Piromalli, and Jonathan Mackin. Supportive brother of the late Carmel Sadrawetz (George), Frankie (Edith), Patsy (Helen), Sammy (Elaine), and Jimmy (Eva). Survived by siblings Susie Greely (late Bob) and Gloria Piromalli. Brother-in law to Ronnie Guzzo (Adele) and Terry Guzzo (Rita). He was a loving uncle to many special nieces and nephews.

John was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. Growing up in the West end, he enjoyed playing softball, hockey, and football with close friends and siblings. John pursued his passion for softball and spent many years playing for a local travel team. As he grew older, he found a love for coaching, quickly becoming an influential leader, mentor, and friend within the hockey community. John and the 1972 Algoma Contractors were elected to the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame in the late 90s. His reward was watching his players go on to lead successful lives, on and off the ice.

His proudest accomplishment was being a father to David and Cheryl, he always found time to love, support, and guide his children. John’s legacy is reflected in his children and how they choose to live their lives.

John was deeply proud of his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “CheeChee.” Whether it was a hockey game, softball tournament, school graduation, or dance recital, Cheechee made it a priority to be present and unrelentingly supportive. The name Cheechee will continue to hold so much value in the lives of his grandchildren.

At the core of it all, was his love for his wife Carmel. Together they shared a long, loving marriage. Their relationship exemplified the meaning of true love and friendship. Carmel will forever cherish the memories shared between her and John, and this love will last a lifetime

Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to Algoma Cancer Clinic would be appreciated by the family.
