Saturday September 6, 2008 - Peacefully passing to her spirit journey, Aunt Jean’s family and friends surrounded her with love as she moved on. Her 88th birthday was celebrated on September 5th. She was known as Aunt Jean by all who met her and everyone whose life she touched. She was a good friend to all.
She was a respected Elder of the Anishnabek Nation. Her father, the late Richard Pine, was a respected statesman. Her mother, the late Ida Wigwas taught Aunt Jean to be fiercely independent.
Aunt Jean was predeceased by two husbands, the late Alvin Sebastion and the late Larry Norman. Her brothers and sisters includ the late John (Smitty) Pine and Lillian,Beulah Abtossway, Sheila Pine, Helen (Billy) Swenson and Don, the late Lucille Taylor, Jake Pine and Mary, Blanche Pine and Cameron, Richard Pine and Rhonda.
She is lovingly remembered by countless nieces and nephews throughout many generations. Aunt Jean’s love wisdom and knowledge was shared with the her "kids" she helped raise including the late Calvin Corbiere, Doug Pine, Bonnie Harrington (Pine), Tanya Bomberry (Pine), Zack Pine. She was a loving Auntie to innumerable children. While in her 70's she continued to chase 5 year old Brett and the 3 year old twins Greg and Marlys, up and down stairs..
Aunt Jean was close friends with many people, including the late Rose Nolan, Ethyl Dellaire, Pat Darnay, Ali Darnay, Angela Neveau, Corella Corbiere, Eunice (McGraw) McMahon, Victoria Syrette, Rosalie Goos, Joanie Hnakuik, the late Nancy Syrette, and Marcel Ladouceur.
Aunt Jean celebrated life every day. In the last few years she acted as her nephew Joe’s conscience and kept him in line. In return, she especially enjoyed his cooking and most of all put up with his corn soup endeavours. Aunt Jean found humour in every situation.
Friends may visit at the Garden River Community centre from 1 pm to 9 pm Tuesday September 9th. In respecting Aunt Jean’s wishes she will be cremated and there will not be any grave side services. Funeral services will take place at 10 am Wednesday September 10th, at the Community Centre. A feast will follow at the Community Centre
Please bring any food donations to the Community Centre for the visitation on Tuesday and for the feast after the funeral.
