Phelps, Charles James "Mike"

(formerly or Sault. Ste Marie) at the Welland County
General Hospital on March 9 2009 in his 69th year. Beloved husband of Mary Jane. Loving father of Sean Michael Phelps of Innisfil and Meigan Jane Phelps of St. Catharines. Cherished Papa of Nicholas and Curtis. Dear brother of Patricia Walton Houston, Texas, Mike will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Frances Phelps and brothers, Frank, James and Roy Phelps. Born in Toronto, Mike moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he retired, after 27 years of service, in 1994, as a senior constable with Ontario Provincial Police. Prior to joining the OPP he served in the American Army from 1963 - 1966, serving one year in
Vietnam. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Faustus A. McKenna Assembly #0873 for 25 years. As well, Mike was a member of the Hiawatha Law Enforcement Officers Association, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #613, Fonthill, the Ontario Provincial Police Association #14 and the Ontario Provincial Police Veterans
Association #4. A private service to celebrate Mike's life was held in the chapel of the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the
Parkinson's Society of Canada would be deeply appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend special thanks to his brother-in-law Terry Quinn and to the
nurses, doctors and all the staff at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland Hospital, for their kindness and compassion.
