PETERSON, FERN GERTRUDE (RINDAHL)

PetersonAttended by all her children, on Saturday July 18th, 2009, Fern Gertrude (Rindahl) Peterson, (94 yrs) passed away peacefully at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), Sault Ste Marie, ON. Wife of the late (Judge) Harold Douglas Peterson (d.1987). Mother of Larry (Pat) Peterson(Sault Ste
Marie, ON), Bruce Peterson (Israel), Donna (Richard) Holbrook (Toronto, ON), and Bonnie (Michael) Traversy (Palm Bay, FL). Grandmother of Dana Peterson (Dave Nogalo), Lisa Peterson, Caroline Peterson (Devin Rogers); Charlene Parrotta, Dennis Douglas, Pamela Cruikshank, Jake Douglas; Meredith Holbrook; Christen, Aaron, Nathanael, and Victoria Traversy. Great grandmother of Ella, Ezra, and Callum Peterson, and August Parrotta. Fern was the eldest sibling of Inez Rindahl, Norman Rindahl, and Agnes Rindahl Ebell (and her daughter Chris Mizani, Sacramento, CA) all of whom
predeceased her.





Born Jan 10th, 1915 in Redcliff, (Medicine Hat) AB, to Norwegian parents, Fern married Harold in Toronto, ON in 1940, and lived in Ottawa, ON with her husband during WWII. She was a resident of Bruce Mines, ON since 1945. She was a colourful, stately and uncompromising woman who contributed to local tourism, park beautification, town cleanliness, and was a volunteer hostess for the Town's annual "Holy Walk" festivity. Usually seen about town on her bicycle and more recently on her red electric scooter, Fern was a
self-taught artist in charcoals, watercolours, oils and acrylics. A widow for 22 years, and living fully independently, Fern learned about computers and used email to maintain contact with her family.




According to Fern's wishes, a private burial service was followed by a celebration of her life held at the Lighthouse Lounge, McKay Island, Bruce Mines, ON.





Special thanks to the staff of the Thessalon Hospital, the Sault Ste Marie General Hospital (Stroke Unit) and ARCH. Memorial donations either to The Bruce Mines and District Historical Society, or to ARCH, would be gratefully appreciated by the family.




Special arrangements were performed through Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon.




Interment was at Bruce Mines Cemetery, Trunk Road, Bruce Mines, ON.
