OSIS, Hilda

Posted

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Hilda Osis. Born in Riga, Latvia, on March 27, 1914, Hilda came to Canada after WWII and built a life in Sault Ste. Marie with her husband and son while remaining connected to her Latvian culture and heritage. Hilda was known for her exquisite taste and extraordinary garden over which she energetically presided for so many years. She was quick to laugh and articulately express her opinions on politics, art, music, and the world in one of the five languages she knew. She is predeceased by her husband, Emils and her sister Gita. Hilda is survived by her son, Imants (Maureen), of Calgary, her grandchildren, Andrew (Jody), Lara and Sean (Helen) and her great-grandchildren, Makenna and Kaelen. The family wishes to acknowledge the FJ Davey Home staff for the excellent care they provided and extend a heartfelt thank you to Deb Clark for her numerous kindnesses to Hilda over the past four years. A memorial service will be held in Sault Ste. Marie at Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 492 Wellington Street East, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 1 pm. Rev. Jouko Jyrkama officiating. A private memorial will be held in Calgary, arranged by her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Diabetes’s Association. And when you see a beautiful well-kept garden please turn a kind thought to Hilda and her life among the blossoms, her happiest endeavor.
