Posted

In loving memory of Mary Kathleen “Adeline” Olsson (Mickusz) - 86 years young who passed away peacefully Sunday, February 6th, 2011 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Sault Ste. Marie. Beloved wife of the late Lionel Olsson, Mary was the loving mother of three daughters - Beverley Olsten (Ron), Lynne Pletch (Max), and Roslyn Walker (Joe). She was a proud grandmother of four granddaughters - Krista Pletch, Jennifer Olsten, Andrea Emisch (Jeffrey), Mary Ellen Olsten, and great-grandmother of Troy Douglas Emisch. Mary is also survived by her sisters Annie King (late Alex), Judy Salvatori (late Evo “Vince”); a brother John Mikus (Shirley); brother-in-law Rodney Olsson (Rose); sisters-in-law Noreen Smith (late George), Irene Olsson (late Sidney). Mary was predeceased by her parents Sophie and Andrew Mickusz and several of her siblings Alfred Mikus (Ann Marie), Peter Micus (Connie), Marie Wiznuk (late John ), Michael “Bosco” Mikus (Irene), Henry Mickusz (Sara), sister-in-law Lola Grimes and brother-in-law Tim Grimes. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. In her younger years “Adeline” as she was fondly known, was an avid gardener, whose gardens were well known by the residents of White River. Many wedding parties had their formal pictures taken in her beautifully landscaped yard. She had a great fondness for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing with her sister Annie at Spadoni’s bridge on Picnic Lake or at Crockers Lake. Also an avid berry picker she travelled throughout the surrounding countryside enjoying the wildlife and keeping away from the bears. She enjoyed knitting and many handicrafts to keep her busy when she was not housecleaning and caring for the many family pets who passed through the household. A fondness of animals followed her throughout her life. As locally acclaimed “chefs”, Adeline and Annie spent many hours perfecting their cooking techniques and countless ways to please the palate of their customers while Lionel kept their knives sharp and chopped and peeled with abandon to keep ahead of them. We have many of these treasured recipes to enjoy in the future with fond remembrance. Better known as the family “lawyer”, Adeline was the one that you wanted on your side. She was a fighter, and remained strong through everything she faced in life. She had a huge heart, a contagious smile, and a great sense of humour and adventure. In her latter years Mary was a resident in Tendercare Nursing Home in Sault Ste Marie where she continued to enjoy many new adventures in her life. She was known as the lady with the beautiful “mischievous” smile. We will remember her always and miss her dearly every day. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 11 am until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 12 noon. Rev. Hamish Currie officiating.
