OLINEK, Renate

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 83, a few days after her birthday, with her son by her side. Predeceased by her beloved husband Walter Olinek. Loving mother of Julie Simkins (Kerry) and Andrew Olinek. Cherished grandmother of Emilie and Jacob. Renate came to Canada from Germany with her parents Emilie and Jacob Zorko. She met her future husband who lived in the same Sault Ste. Marie neighbourhood. Mom enjoyed her life as a homemaker and especially being a wife, mother and grandmother. Andrew remembers fondly that his mom was there at every game and early morning Hockey practice (now that's a true Canadian mom!). She held many other interests before Alzheimer's claimed them. Through the years she curled, bowled, crafted, gardened and as her kids joked about "spent their inheritance at the Casino" (with her $20 limit). There were many dances at the Polish hall, travel and much shared laughter with Dad, family and friends. The Bible tells us "there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven... a time to weep, a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance". The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Mapleview for all of their special care and compassion during this time. Arrangements are entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E, 705-759-2522). Interment to take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
