O’BRIEN, Cletus John

Posted

Peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home on Saturday, December 8, 2012 with his family by his side.  Clete lived 86 happy and fulfilling years, sharing 63 of those years with his loving wife Jacqueline (Foisy).  Together they raised six children Patrick (Colleen), Susan McAuley (Mike), late Richard, Louise MacKay (Dan), Christine McClary (Dave) and Denise Griswold (Scott).  He was blessed with ten grandchildren Allison, Christopher, Jordon, Paul, Aaron, Darcy, Andrew, Jessica, Chelsea and Ryan.  He was also very proud of and enjoyed his time with his ten great-grandchildren.  Cletus was born in 1926 to Thomas and Anie O’Brien in the farming community of Vinton, Quebec in the Ottawa Valley with his eight siblings late Leo (late Joan), late Estelle Perry (late Bud), late Kevin (late Barbara), late Joe (late Flo), late Noreen, Quinton (Pat) (Ellen), Mary McCann (Terry) and Anne Fitzpatrick (Jim); brother-in-law of Theresa Dufresne (Ivan), Ray Foisy (Gail) and Don Foisy (late Connie) and predeceased by ten.  Clete and Jackie met in North Bay and soon thereafter made their home in Sault Ste. Marie.  He served as Past President of the A.C.T. where he was a long time member and an honourary member of Knights of Columbus Superior Council No. 932.  As a traveling tire salesman he met and maintained many friendships.  Hunting, especially with his son and later also his grandson, was a treasured pastime as well as camping, travelling and cross country skiing with Jackie.  Dad will be remembered for his great “Blarney” sense of humour that remained with him until his last days.  The family of Cletus extend our sincerest appreciation to Phil, Alyssa, Tracy, Pam, Susan, Denis, Jeff and Patrick and Colleen and Yvonne in palliative care, for their compassionate care.  To the residents who accepted us into their “family”, you will always be remembered.  Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home Cremation & Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 945-7758) on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Gerard Majella Church (211 Pentagon Blvd) Small reception to follow at church hall.  Memorial donations made to the Alzeimer’s Society or Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.  Thank you to Northwood Funeral Home and Father Francis Ezenezi and the C.W.L. at St. Gerard’s.   www.northwoodfuneral.com
