Rick worked at Algoma Steel as a Mechanical Technician for 31 years.  He was so proud to be an honorary OPP, having lost his son Eric in the line of duty.  Rick was a real sports enthusiast from an early age.  He coached, played and refereed basketball at the YMCA for many years.  Rick was involved with the Eric Nystedt Memorial Basketball Tournament and sanctioned Run in honour of his son.  He and Deb also loved to golf and enjoyed watching the Sweet Sixteen basketball, Toronto Blue Jays and Green Bay Packers.

In later years, Rick had such passion and keen eye for unusual wood and he became a self-taught carver.  His walking sticks, candles, lamps and bowls have travelled near and far.  We had many memories of selling our wares at the Canadian Carver, Voyageur Lodge and Tarentorus Public School. Rick enjoyed being a member of the Wood Bee Carvers Guild on Monday nights at the Senior's Drop-in Centre.

Over the years so many wonderful family and friends have touched Rick's heart with their kindness and support.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the special memories.  Thank you to Rick's team of doctors, Bruni, Gelmych, Gupta, Mathur, Aziz, Berry, Shaffie, Rebelo and NP Brenda Paat.  Thank you also to doctors Beuhner, Wilson, Apostle and family health nurse Jennifer Hendry.  An additional thanks goes out to the wonderful nurses on 3B and 1B, especially Kim, who was with Rick at the end.  Thank you also to physiotherapist Melissa Cady, Rochelle and the team from Bayshore.
