Nino, Ronald Felix

Ronald Felix Nino, age 81, of Bonita Springs, FL and New Hope, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 7th after a long struggle with Cancer.  A loyal husband, devoted father, loving brother, and proud and loving grandfather and uncle, Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evalee (Miller); a son Anthony and daughter-in-law Sharri of Flowery Branch, GA.; a daughter Ronnalee and son-in-law Randy Kent of Ann Arbor, MI.; a daughter Kristine and son-in-law Todd Witnauer of Grand Blanc, MI; a daughter Angela and daughter-in-law Karen Andrews of New Hope, PA.; Ralph (Anne) and sisters Rita (late Jack) and BettyLou.   He adored his seven grandchildren: Lindsay Nino, Riley and Austin Kent, Kassidy and Madisson Witnauer, and Brendan and Bryant Andrews-Nino.  Ron also enjoyed the company of his many nieces and nephews.  Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Georgina.   Born on February 26, 1932 in Sault Ste. Marie, ONT, Ron attended Ryerson University in Toronto and went on to Michigan State University to complete his B.S. degree.  He later went back to Michigan State to complete two Masters Degrees in the area of Urban Planning and Public Administration.  Ron later achieved a certification from MIT in Community Planning.  Ron began his professional career in Sault Ste. Marie, ONT as a city planner for 10 years before moving to MI.   While in MI, Ron provided consulting services for city development to a number of communities, Charlevoix, Northville, Monroe and Grand Blanc to name just a few.  He went on to become the Township Supervisor for Grand Blanc, MI from 1984-1987.    After moving to Bonita Springs, FL in 1988, he went on to work for the Collier County Planning Section and finished his career at Vanasse Daylor LLP in Ft. Meyers, FL.  Ron was actively involved in church choirs, the Roman Catholic Church, the Kiwanis Club, and the Sons of Italy and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.   He was an avid gardener, fervent reader, a connoisseur of fine Italian food, and an accomplished singer.  Ron would many times become the life of the party when he would break out into a rendition of Ava Maria or My Way or bring many a wedding procession to tears with his operatic bravado.  A Funeral Mass will be held in Sault Ste. Marie, ONT on Saturday, May 18th at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., followed by a burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.   Ron leaves behind a wealth of friends and family, who will miss his fine intellect, his warm smile and laugh, and his affectionate teddy bear personality.  Donations in Ron’s name can be made to the Abramson Cancer Center at www.pennmedicine.org.
