Our incredible mom and Nonna, Assunta Nanni, passed away peacefully at Sault Area Hospital on November 21, 2022. She had a very full 98 years of life.
She is predeceased by and now reunited with her beloved husband and best friend Mike “Mikey” Nanni. Mama to her two sons Barry and Raymond (Joyce). Loving Nonna to her granddaughters Maria Rowell (Kory) and Laura Groulx (Thomas). Proud Bisnonna to her great granddaughter Nyla Rowell. She leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be extraordinarily missed by her nieces Sandra and Nellina, both of whom she spoke to daily. Daughter of the late Sabatino & late Grazia Ciarmellano. Predeceased by siblings Costanza, Alfonzo, Antonio, Carmella, and Dora.
Assunta was born in Vacri, Chieti, Italy, moving to Canada in 1954 to marry the love of her life and childhood neighbour, Mike. She had an epic life. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was a devout Catholic, faithful in prayer her entire life. She loved God, loved her family, and loved caring for and making food for everyone. Assunta was “Nonna” to so many people. If you were one of them, thank you for celebrating her life with us. We are blessed to have shared our time with her.
A sincere thank you to Nonna’s son and primary caregiver, Barry, for all of the years you have taken care of Nonna so that she could live comfortably in her own home. Thank you also to her long-time friend and caregiver, Dolly.
