MUTIKAINEN, Soili - Passed away peacefully at Mauna Kaihla Koti on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024, in her 91st year. She is predeceased by her husband Osmo Mutikainen (2006), and her parents Vieno and Lauri Maakumpu.

Soili was a loving mother to her children, Pertti Mutikainen and Anne Markkula (Leo) and daughter-in-law Ruth Tonon. She was a special Mummu to Christian Mutikainen (Amanda Hickey), David Mutikainen (Nora Younes), Ryan Markkula (Katie Wright), Kevin Markkula (Cait Tomlinson) and Allison Markkula (David O’Sullivan) and a very special Iso Mummu to Harrison Markkula.

Soili leaves behind her brother Esko Maakumpu (Raija Ritokoski), niece Anita Marsch (Paul), sister Anja Leivo in Finland, nephew Matti Marsch in Sweden, brother-in-law Seppo Mutikainen (Laila) in Finland and many nieces and nephews throughout Finland, Sweden and Germany.

She is predeceased by her Mutikainen brothers-in-law Mauri, Esko, Pauli and Raimo and sister-in-law Vappu Kivijarvi.

Soili will be fondly remembered by the local Finnish Community and particularly by OFRA where she belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary.  While living at Suomi Eesti Maja, she worked in the thrift store and help bake pulla to raise funds for various fundraising initiatives.

For 25 years, Soili enjoyed working at SEARS in ladies wear and was often recognized for her exceptional customer service skills. She made many lifelong friends there and very much enjoyed her “Sears Ladies” luncheons well into her retirement.

Soili and Osmo built a summer camp in Bruce Mines in the early 70’s and this was their favourite place to spend time with family and friends. It was often referred to as a “work” camp but it was always a labour of love and both of them couldn’t have been happier anywhere else. It will continue to be cared for and enjoyed by her children and grandchildren for many years to come.

Most importantly she will be remembered as a wonderful mother, a loving and proud Mummu and the best advice giver.  Always remember to wear sunscreen, put life jackets on when you are in a boat and wear your coat, hat and mitts when it’s cold outside.

A private family service has been held for Soili and cremation will take place.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Perry, all of the nurses, PSW’s and staff that took such great care of Soili during her stay at MKK.  She “was a very strong woman”.

Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association.
