Passed away peacefully surrounded by his four daughters and loved ones at the Sault Area Hospital on September 4, 2023, at the age of 83.

Loving husband of the late Erika Elisabeth (nee Dannrath) for 45 years. Beloved father of Susanne White (Wally), Carolin Ruscio (Dominic), Christine Heintzman, and Sabine Macina (Domenic). Proud grandfather of Amanda Spadafora (Manny), Kylie Baronet (Jordon), Nicholas and Courtney (Brendan) Macina, Nicole and Mackenzie Heintzman and Amber White. Son of the late Franz and Rosalia of Klagenfurt, Austria, and brother of the late Arnold of Sault Ste. Marie. Cherished brother of Gerlinde Rojsek (Carlo) of Austria. He will be remembered by Derek Heintzman as well as his long-time best friend and riding buddy Chuck Deplonty.

Erich moved to Sault Ste. Marie from Austria at the age of 20 and enjoyed downhill skiing and playing soccer for Camera Craft as a young man.  He later learned to play the banjo and would occasionally perform at Peachy’s in the Sault. He will be remembered as a long-time member of the Local 508 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and as a volunteer for the Aweres Volunteer Fire Department. At the age of 60, Erich pursued his passion of motorcycles and purchased a Softail Harley Davidson and later a “Real Red” Road King. He immensely enjoyed riding with his friends throughout Canada and the United States.

The family would like to thank the Sault Ste. Marie Paramedics as well as the staff at The Great Northern Retirement Home where he lived for over two years for their excellent care. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Oliver and the staff, especially Nicole and Bailey at the Sault Area Hospital for the compassionate care provided, and the many family and friends who supported us all on this journey.

As per Erich’s wishes there will be no formal service or visitation and cremation has taken place.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Great Northern Retirement Home (Payable by cheque only).
