Morris (McCulligh), Hannah Lois

Posted

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hannah Lois Morris (McCulligh) announce her passing on April 1, 2010 at the age of 75 at St. Joseph Nursing Villa (Dundas, ON) after over a decade of living with Alzheimer’s disease. Lois was the loving mother of Lynne Morris (Mark Patterson) and Jill Morris (Gary Vipond); her “girls” were everything to her and she was very proud of them. Lois is also survived by her three adoring grandchildren, Brett Morris-Pitfield, Hannah Morris-Patterson and James Morris-Patterson. Lois is predeceased by her parents William (Willie) James McCulligh and Lucy Mae McCulligh, her sister Nora McDonald, and her brothers Grenville and Mervyn McCulligh. She is survived by her sisters Josephine Crandell and Myrna McVicar and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was born and raised on the Manitoulin Island, but lived much of her adult life in Southern Ontario. Lois returned each summer to vacation with her children and teach them about her birthplace. Lois returned later in life to build her retirement home and live out her retirement; sadly, much of her retirement left her diminished by Alzheimer’s and her stay was short. Lois had a heart of gold and always saw the best in others. She was always there to offer a helping hand or hold a hand. Lois was extremely charitable and would rather give before she met her own needs. She was a wonderful mother and loving grandmother. The sun rose and set over her family.

No funeral will be held according to Lois’ wishes; as Lois’ final act of giving she bequithed her body to MacMaster University. A private family service will be held on April 26th at St. Joseph’s Villa where she received exemplary care over the last 6 years of her life. Many thanks to all of the staff on the “Tulip Garden” wing for caring for our precious mother and for providing so much comfort to her children in Lois’ final days. Lynne and Jill are also thankful for their loving father, James A. Morris, who supported them emotionally through this most difficult time.

Lois would want to be remembered with a smile. Please honour Lois’ life by simply being kind to another; it would bring her so much joy to be honoured as she often lived her own life. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or Algoma University (where a scholarship will be established in memory of Lois) would also be appreciated. Rest peacefully Mom.
