It is with deep sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of John "Jack" Gordon Moore.
Jack passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 30, 2021 in his 81st year. Beloved husband and best friend to Connie, his sweetheart and the love of his life for over 61 years. Loving and special father to Marty (Mary-Lynn), Jason and Michelle Owen (Chris). Cherished Pops to Martina, Marcus, Jake, Cole and Molly. Son of the late Jack and Ida-Marie. Predeceased by his older brothers Pat and Mike (Janet) and his father and mother-in-law Art and Emma Tadashore. Survived by his step-sister Jeanette Kempin-Smith and his sisters-in-law Mary Moore, Diane Poling (Jim) and brother-in-law Art Tadashore (Nancy). He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jack will be remembered as a hard-working, family man who had a plan for life and wanted to make a difference in all that he did. He was a genuine individual who was always quick with a joke and a warm smile, constantly thinking of new ideas ready to help. Born in Kirkland Lake, his family moved to Sault Ste. Marie when he was four years old. Growing up he spent his time playing hockey on the outdoor rinks and became an accomplished player who was invited to the Chicago Blackhawks camp. He later continued his passion for the game coaching minor league hockey. Jack began working at Algoma Steel at 18 and retired 33 years later (1992), as a Supervisor in the Industrial Engineering Department. Prior to Algoma, Jackie began honing his contracting skills at Soo Mill, then pipe-fitting and plumbing skills as he continued to work nights developing his own business, RE-do-All, Inc, which he later expanded into Airkem Disaster Services upon retirement. His entrepreneurial spirit kept him busy and working until his final days with us.
Jack always believed in giving back to the community in which he lived and worked, and described it as a natural calling and privilege to serve in municipal politics and help disadvantaged children. He was a dedicated Ward 1 City Councilor from 1989-1997 and actively served on many community boards throughout the city from 1975-2018. Amongst many roles, Jack was a past executive board member of Red Cross and recognized by his Kiwanian peers when elected as President of Steel City Kiwanis; an honour he treasured being able to help provide opportunities to the children in his community. Jack always enjoyed gardening, cheering on the Greyhounds, golfing and fishing with his buddies. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren over a meal from “the best cook,” his love Connie.
To his family, he is our constant inspiration and source of happiness. He is truly a role-model, a super-hero Dad, Pops, best friend, confidant, endless provider and guardian to his love, Connie. His family is so proud that he accomplished his life’s plan. Although he will be missed every day, he will forever be in our heart and we will never forget all he has given us and his love, holding his hand always and forever.
The family would like to thank all the incredible, dedicated doctors, nurses and caregivers at Sault Area Hospital and St. Mike's Hospital who cared for their father for many years. You are all Guardian Angels and we can never thank you enough.
