At the Palliative Care Unit - Plummer Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the age of 74 years. Beloved husband of Millie for 48 years. Loving father of Judy Miller (Herb), Jim Mertes (Lynda), Liz Summers (Doug) and John Mertes (Wanda). Loving Papa of Jake, Jude, D.J., Nathan, Mitchell, Matthew, Samantha and Sean. Son of the late John and Marjorie Mertes. Brother of Gerry (Mary) and Don (Barb). Brother-in-law of the late Jim Gowan, Peggy Flanagan (Tom), Maureen Johnstone (late Bill), Tim Gowan (Bonnie) and Michael Gowan (Denise). Cherished by his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Loved by many and especially missed by his fellow members of the Soo Modelers Club and Bushplane Museum Volunteers. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass at St. Jerome Church on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Hamish Currie officiating.
