It is with great sadness that we, the Merling family, announce the passing of Jason Merling, at the age of 49, on Tuesday August 22, 2023 at the Toronto General Hospital after a lengthy illness with his partner and family by his side. His presence will be greatly missed by family and friends and his fur babies. His death has left a void in the hearts of many, but especially to Jason Johnson, the light of his life and partner for the past 23 years. Jason was a son, a brother, an uncle, (his greatest pride), a nephew, cousin and friend to many.

Son of George and the late Betty Ann Merling. Brother to Ted (Annette), David (Julie), James, (Theresa) and the late Kevin Merling.  Dear nephew of John and Donelda Merling, Nancy Grexton, Bob and Bonnie Burke, and the late Duane and Jack Grexton. Predeceased by his grandparents Eddie and Ada Grexton and Frank and Maria Merling. Uncle to Grant, (Patricia), Joshua, Courtney (Sam), Melissa (Lyall), Sarina (Mitch), Katie (Hank), Brittany, Shannon, Jessica (Charlie), and Tanner. He was the great uncle to many whom he loved and cherished. Best friend to Tammy Sisson and Susan Plastino, The Three Musketeers over the years who have treasured memories.

Jason will be fondly remembered for his love for life, his family and his CIBC work family that has been so supportive of him during his health issues over the years. He always had a way of brightening your day with his wit and humor. He could light up a room, literally, with his love for Google Home gadgets and light shows. It was his passion. He loved his fur babies, Meeko and Sookie both gone and Pookie and Yooishi. He loved watching his neighbor's dog Frida, and enjoyed the time spent with them working from home.

A Celebration of Jason’s Life will be announced at a later date.

To honor his memory, Jason would have wanted to donate to the Arch Hospice as this meant a great deal to him and close to his heart as they took excellent care of his mom near the end of her life journey. Jason is finally at peace, free from pain and suffering. He disliked being in this sick role and he fought hard every day publicly sharing his fight on social media. He also supported others from the pancreatic group who fought the same battle with him and truly understood it. Rest easy dear Jason. We love you. We will cherish your memory until we meet again. This is not a goodbye, just a see you later.

 Love your family
