The family is sad to announce the peaceful passing of Carol on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the F.J. Davey Home. Born in Sudbury, Ontario to parents Elmor and Emily and sister of Lloyd, Jane and the late Helen Shelswell. Wife of the late Lawrence Menard and Mother of the late Jean-Paul Menard, Mother-in-law of Jeanette. Extended family throughout Canada. Carol was the most adoring Gramma to her only Grandson Kirtland who remembers her always baking delicious muffins for him and his Daddy and being the co-conspirator in their late night sleepovers. Carol trained as a nurse at the Plummer Hospital. Once she completed her training in the Sault she continued her education with extended training in Toronto at Princess Margaret Cancer hospital and Sick Children’s hospital. She graduated in 1963 and enjoyed a long career. Carol married Larry in 1964 and they had their son JP in 1967. Carol and Larry had a passion for hunting, fishing and camping and spend as much of their free time outdoors. Their passion was passed along to their son as well. Carol ensured that her son JP embarked on many travel adventures overseas with her which she continued after her retirement particularly to the British Isles and throughout Europe. Exploring different parts of the world was a passion of Carol’s. She would always come home with a “thimble” or souvenir spoon from places she explored. Another passion of Carol’s was knitting, crocheting and embroidery. Carol made many beautiful gifts for family and friends. As per the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to Heart and Stroke Foundation or SAH Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at The FJ Davey Home for their care and compassion. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).
