Dec 24, 1948 - July 3, 2021

The Family of Philip J. McPherson regret to announce his death, at age 72, on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021, at the Sault Area Hospital.

He is predeceased by his parents Marty and Catherine McPherson and his sister Sharon Doyle. He is survived by his siblings Terry McPherson (Bruna), Martin McPherson, Mary Martynuck, Maureen McCarthy (Marty), Colleen Buscarini and Bill McPherson (Claire) as well as by twenty nieces and nephews and their children. Special ‘Uncle Phil’ to Greg (Amy), Kim (Jeremy), Dakota and Jayden.

Prior to his retirement Philip's career as a French school teacher took him to many parts of Canada as well as teaching locally. His interest in literature and the arts included extensive reading of the classics and the works of some of the great philosophers. He enjoyed all things political especially the American federal elections. In his retirement he took up fiction-writing and though he went unpublished he was prolific in his novel- and short-story attempts. While teaching he did co-produce two short plays for his students.

Though not an extrovert in his faith he held a deep and abiding love for his Lord Jesus serving as an altar boy in his youth at Blessed Sacrament Church. He has supported Maria (lives in South America) for many years via World Vision and has set up a trust for her in his will. Though not necessarily athletic he enjoyed all the sports of a Canadian youth. He loved the early Yankee teams of Maris and Mantle especially. He ‘batboyed’ for his big brother Terry’s softball team and as an adult he joined his big brother again on a senior recreational hockey team once even scoring a hat trick. In the early 70s he and his brother Martin shared some university experiences at King’s College (Western U). Though at times he struggled with health issues he was always, from the oldest to his youngest sibling, a cherished model for all that life can bring.

His passing was brief and peaceful, and we thank God for that. Your prayers for Phil are much appreciated.

Our appreciation also goes out to the staff of the local city and hospital branches of CCAC for their diligent home care; as well we thank the many doctors and nurses at Sault Area Hospital who provided care to Phil.

A Funeral Mass for Family will take place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and internment will be done in the family plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
