McNICHOL, Edith

Posted

Surrounded by her loving family, Edith peacefully passed away at Algoma Residential Community Hospice on August 4, 2010 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late James Main (killed in action in Falaise, France in 1944) and the late James McNichol (deceased in 1979). Long time friend of the late George Hind (2001). Loving mother of Jackie Switzer (Bob) of Vancouver, B.C., Leslie Willson (Bruce), Peter McNichol (Diana), and Paul McNichol (Verna) of Langley, B.C. Grandmother to Colin Switzer (Jenn), Matthew Switzer (Jess), Jevon Willson (Kala), Elizabeth Jones (Matt), Jessica McNichol (Nathaniel) and Kyle McNichol (Kailyn). Proud great grandmother of Colton Jones. Edith served her country (Great Britain) in the Second World War as an air raid plotter attached to the RAF. She immigrated to Canada in 1946 with her daughter, Jackie, and settled in Sault Ste. Marie in 1950 where she raised her family of four along with her second husband, Jim McNichol. Edith captured the hearts of everyone she met. She was witty, vivacious, fun-loving, and serious all at the same time – a special human being who continually practiced the art of self sacrifice and giving, she tried to teach us to do likewise. Edith will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Pathways and A.R.C.H. for all their help. A special thank you to Dr. David Fera for his concern, compassion, and caring especially within the last few months of our mother’s life. A private memorial service was held at St. Luke’s Cathedral on Monday, August 9, 2010. (Arrangements entrusted to the Barton & Kiteley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre 705-759-2114). Memorial contributions to the A.R.C.H. would be appreciated. Great grandmother, grandmother and mother, wife, role model and the lover of life – we will miss you.
