McLEOD, Roderick

Roderick McLeod was not long off the tee, but steady down the middle. Rod passed away at the age of 85.

He was a man who loved a round of golf, shenanigans during it, and the 19th hole to follow with friends.
He loved a beer with the boys, a prank on a friend and talking about the good times he’d had while at McGill, skiing with friends, and his days on the farm in Iron Bridge.

More than that, he loved his wife of 46 years, Hollis.

Together they raised 3 children who he was fiercely proud of, Heidi, Steve, and Sarah. He was a cheerleader for all of them, their spouses Aldo Caputo and Virginia McLeod who he always sided with, and more so to his 5 grandchildren (Emma, Tess, Ben, Sam, and Alexa) with whom he loved spending time with – being a kid at heart himself, he could relate.

Seeing the successes of his family was his greatest pride. Nothing made him happier than that.

He was quick to talk about his siblings in Darlene McLeod Johnston and late brother-in-law Darryl (late Jane & late Marion) and Mike Wennechuk and his sister-in-law Linda Gibson (Gerry). He grew an extended family through lifelong neighbours Al and Peggy Byce. Extremely special to him was the friendship and most trusted confidant he had in AJ Bisceglia.

Rod spoke fondly of coming up in the business community in the Sault where he worked as an accountant before branching into property management with Fleming and Smith. This career move allowed him to build relationships with tradespeople, professionals, and tenants from all walks of life. He loved their stories and bugging them to no end whenever he could. His trademark beige pants could be seen walking downtown most days and tossing a wave to everyone passing by.

A Tea Leaf Reader once said to Hollis, “Your husband is a nice man, but he’s very annoying”.
This was mostly accurate. Rod was the type of guy who would pick up a pedestrian in a snowstorm and take them wherever they were going. He was also a guy who would call you to tease you about something that happened years ago. He was always the least important person on his list, and always did everything for anyone else with no expectations.

Roddy’s vehicle of choice was often interesting at best, and the price or conditions of the acquisition were never really known, but his golf clubs were always high end.

Roddy will be missed by those who had the absolute pleasure of knowing him. Especially his golf guys Dave McComb, Gerry Nanne among others who made his last few years on the course great as well as his best friends who have already played through. Don “Norby” Wilson, Brian Oliver, Terry Corbett, Billy Harris, and Ron Ramsay.

Our family is forever grateful for the constant support, love and humour provided by “Dr. Nicki” Apostle.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522) on Friday, June 16, 2023 with visitation starting at 1pm and service at 3pm. A McLeod-style celebration to follow at Quattro.

We will miss your jokes, your easy laugh, and your stories.
Hold Fast.
