With heavy hearts, our family wishes to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, at the Sault Area Hospital on Sunday March 18, 2018 in his 88th year.  George was the loving husband of the late Ethel (nee Connor), dearest friend of the late Jeannette Maccarone and dear friend of Mary Fiset.  Cherished father of Ken (late Sharon), (late Mary Nelson), John and Jim (Barbara).  Treasured grandfather of Steven (Sarah), Jason (Jen), Lisa Mulligan (Derek), Kelly Briffett (Dave), Jennifer Francella (Joey), Meggan and Emily.  Adored great-grandfather of Sarah and Mitchell McLeod, Connor McLeod, Ryan and Myranda Mulligan, Emma and Jacob Briffett, David, Evan and Nella Francella.  George was the eldest son of the late George and late Irene (nee McWhinney) McLeod.  Brother of the late Peg Cadham (late Carl), Marie Jeffrey (George), late Ken (late Kathy), late Edward, and William (late Donna), (Carol).  Brother-in-law of Esther Pinder (late Earl), late Barbara Fowler, late Ron Chapman (Ann), and late Robert Connor.  Special uncle to many nieces and nephews.  George worked hard all his life and in 1985 he retired from Algoma Steel only to redirect his energy to his family and friends, lending a hand, never needing to be asked.  A wealth of knowledge, he could repair anything.  George was a wise, witty, wonderful man who lived life to its fullest.  No grass could ever grow beneath his feet because he was always on the go.  He walked every day knowing that to stay active you must be active.  For many years, George was the custodian of the Lions Place Building.  But his greatest joy was his children.  A mentor and best friend to his sons.  Number one fan of all his grandchildren.  He had a special relationship with each and every one of us which we treasured.  Friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522) on Monday March 26, 2018 from 10:30 am until12:30 pm.  Funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1pm.  Rev. Laurie Milito officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to A.R.C.H. would be greatly appreciated.  Special thank you to the Emergency Department and the nursing staff on 3C at the Sault Area Hospital for their care and compassion.
