Passed peacefully on March 5th, 2023, at the Sault Area Hospital just shy of his 90th birthday and is now reunited with his “Hunnie” Lynnie. Loving father and friend to his kids Steve McKinley (Karen), Ian McKinley, Mike McKinley (Karen) and Jean McKinley (Marcel). Greatest sports fan and fun loving Papa to Carly Johnston (Devin), Brett Johnston (Molly), Lauren McKinley (Evan), Rachel McKinley and Adam McKinley.

Ab was an only child but was lucky to be surrounded by a loving extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law with whom he shared many wonderful years and memories with. Wendie and Terry Ackland, late Phyllis and Earl Young and late Dawna and Don Macgregor. Special cousin to Jane and Sam Flaxey and kind and funny Uncle Ab to many nieces and nephews.

Ab’s jovial personality and gift of gab helped him in his successful career as a car salesman for over 50 years with a loyal clientele and great friendships with his work family. This demeanor shone in his personal life as well and having fun with family and friends was what it was all about. From the early days of dinner dances, family road trips, camp at Island Lake, volleyball gang and our traditional Sunday family dinners at 122 Moluch he loved to be surrounded by family and friends and enjoy a cold beer at “Happy Hour”.  His sense of humour and witty sarcasm will always be remembered along with lots of great stories and memories, he was one of kind for sure.

Over the last year and half Ab called Collegiate Heights his home and his family would like to thank the staff for providing him with care and compassion right until the end. We want to give special acknowledgement to Dr. Coccimiglio who provided wonderful medical care over the years, thank you to Bayshore Nursing and in his final days thank you to Dr. Febbraro & Dr. Booth and the nurses of 3C for the guidance, compassion, and exceptional care.

As per Ab’s wishes, a funeral service will be held at Willowgrove United Church (55 Tilley Road, SSM) on Saturday March 11th, 2023 at 1:00 pm followed by a celebration at the Tap Room at (50 Pim St, SSM) where we will toast a life well lived with a nice cold beer from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Donations to Willowgrove United Church or SAH Foundation would be appreciated by the family. (Payable online https://www.willowgroveunited.ca/donate - https://www.sahfoundation.com/donate or by cheque).

In the words of Ab “Until we meet again, take er cool.”
