McGUIRE, JAMES D’ARCY

MCGUIRESuddenly, at his home on Saturday March 12, 2011 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of 61 years to Norah. Loving father to Elizabety (Tian), Michael, Katherine, Norah (David), Nancy (Michael), Kelly (Paraic), Constance (Ralph) and Cecile. Kind and beloved grandfather to Addie, Kartini, Sebastian, Justiani, Sarah, Christopher, Kaitlin, Meaghan, Molly and Sophie and great grandfather to Brayden and Camryn. D’Arcy was born in Pembroke, Ontario and raised on Alumette Island , Quebec, He was the eldest of 10 and was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Cecil and siblings Edwin, Willie, Marjory, Jack and Joe. D’Arcy is survived by his siblings Jim (Helen), Denis (Joan), Mary, Donald and sister in law Grace. Special uncle to Maria and Carol and many other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. D’Arcy lived a full and happy life, initially in Schreiber, Ontario where he worked on the Canadian Pacific Railway for 43 years as a Locomotive Engineer. As his family grew to eight children, D’Arcy also began his own thriving television sales and service business. In Schreiber, D’Arcy was an active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, member of Holy Angels Church and a Trustee on the local school board. He was also an avid boater and he made several adventurous trips on his boat, the “Norah D” on Lake Superior from Rossport Ontario to St. Joseph Island. After retirement, D’Arcy moved to St. Joseph Island where he continued to enjoy singing and playing guitar at large family gatherings. D’Arcy had the heart of a poet and he loved to write poems as well as recite them. His stories, jokes, songs and poems entertained his family and friends throughout his life. Special Thanks to Dr. Richardson and the paramedics and nurses at Matthews Memorial Hospital for their kindness. Visitation will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island Friday March 18th from noon until time of funeral mass at 2 p.m. with Rev Veselko Kvesic o.f.m. officiating Cremation will be followed by interment in the family plot at St. Joseph Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Matthews Memorial Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family.
