1950 – 2023
We lost a huge piece of our hearts with the passing of a truly gentle man, a true and faithful husband, a kind and patient father, and a special and loving papa to his five grandchildren.
Dennis was an unassuming man who demonstrated his love of family every single day. He was a true friend and neighbour of many, always there to help, never expecting anything in return. His kindness saw no boundaries.
Dennis had a great passion for music. He was a gifted guitarist. He entertained many at backyard bonfires in the old Heath Road neighbourhood and during our many camping trips. He was thrilled that his granddaughter, Olivia is following in his pathway and that his grandson Liam has also picked up the guitar. He was extremely honoured to be called papa by Camryn, Jack, and Chase. He was amazed as he watched them grow into incredibly decent young adults with their own hopes and dreams. All five of these poor kids were subjected to endless “papa jokes” and groaners.
2023 has been a hard year for our family as our oldest daughter, Jennifer, passed away unexpectedly earlier in the new year. It is so true that no parent should bear witness to the death of a child.
His heart was broken, and he never recovered from this deep, deep loss.
His daughters, Jennifer, and Julie were his pride and joy. His love for them knew no boundaries. He cared deeply for his sons in law, Justin Dawson, John Merrett, and Julie’s partner Joe DeRosario.
He adored his wife, Shelley, and demonstrated his love for her daily in the many small ways that kept our 51-year marriage alive, fun, and tender. We are extremely blessed for the many happy memories which will now sustain our family.
Dennis was the son of Gwen and Mel McEachern and his birth father Ken Tarzwell. Preceded by his brothers in law of John and Marshall Kendrick. Brother of Gail.
Grief is the reminder of the depth of our love. Without love, there is no grief. So, when we feel our grief, uncomfortable and aching as it may be, it is a reminder of the beauty of that love, now lost - The Dalai Lama.
Rest in peace my dear, dear husband. You are now free to explore God’s universe and to find our beautiful Jenn.
I’m riding wild, riding free, hope you will remember me if I am gone awhile I gotta ride - Dennis McEachern (1969)
A Celebration of Life will be held in August to honour both Dennis and our daughter Jennifer. Details to follow.
