MASTROIANNI, Vittorio Italo - passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

"La morte non è la fine, ma il nuovo inizio di un viaggio eterno."

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a man whose life was a unique story of love, challenges and triumphs. Vittorio, a devoted family man, loving nonno, and a master welder, peacefully departed this world on December 6th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were closest to him.

Beloved husband of the late Pasqualina (Piucci), beloved father of late Joseph, Claudio (Sylvia), Carmela Roznik (Robert), late Patricia, and Tiziana Palumbo (Vincent). Adored nonno of Lucas, Brianna, Marcus and Matteo. Cherished brother of Salvatore, late Luigino, late Ferdinando, late Antonio, late Elmo, late Giuseppe and late Rosa. Special compari of Stefano and Angelina Parisi. He will be greatly missed by many members of his extended family.

Vittorio’s story began on March 29, 1941.  He was born to Giuseppe and Carmela (Capparella) in Dragoni, Italy.  He was proud of his family lineage, a heritage he cherished throughout his life. The story of this remarkable family is one of resilience, love, and unwavering support, born out of the shared challenge of losing their parents at a tender age. As the youngest among siblings who became each other's pillars, Vittorio brought a special light to the family. Throughout the years, and from miles away, Vittorio continued to keep very close connections with his family in Italy, especially with his nieces and nephews once his siblings had passed on.

We are comforted in knowing that Vittorio is reunited with the love of his life, Pasqualina, 14 years after her passing.  As children, they grew up next door to each other. From those early days, a love story unfolded that would become the cornerstone of Vittorio’s life. Their connection blossomed into a profound and enduring love. Vittorio and Pasqualina shared a journey that saw them through the trials of immigrating to a new country, building a life for themselves and their children. Through the seasons of life, and through difficult circumstances, the bond that began in the simplicity of youth only deepened over time. He truly lost a part of himself when Pasqualina passed.

As a father, Vittorio worked hard at providing for his family.  As the years unfolded, Vittorio transitioned into a role of mentorship and guidance. He found joy in sitting down with his children and grand-children to impart the wisdom he had garnered over the years. His lessons were not just about life's practicalities but about hard work, humility, and the importance of family bonds.

At family gatherings, Vittorio would often sit back, a twinkle in his eye, and look on with immense pride at the family he had helped nurture. He reveled in the accomplishments of his loved ones, finding joy in their successes.

Beyond his family, Vittorio was a man of varied interests and talents. An avid gardener, he found solace in the garden, tending to plants with care and precision. He loved watching his garden blossom throughout the growing season but loved nothing more than sharing his harvest with his loved ones and friends.  If it wasn’t gardening season, then Vittorio could be found making sausage, prosciutto or wine.  As he slowed down over the years, he took great pride in watching his children carry on these traditions.
His adventurous spirit led him to try his luck with lottery games, adding an element of excitement to his daily routine. A passionate follower of Formula 1 racing, wrestling and soccer, he could often be found cheering for his favorite teams, a gleam of enthusiasm in his eyes.

Professionally, Vittorio was a master welder—a creative force who poured his heart into his work. From his early beginning at Adam’s Welding to the 30+ years he dedicated to Algoma Steel, Vittorio was a respected tradesman. He took pride in his craftsmanship.  While out in the community with his family, he would always point out each railing, structure and project he had worked on. His hardworking nature and commitment to excellence were evident in every weld, a testament to the values he held dear.

Vittorio’s sharp memory was a marvel to those who knew him best, as he never forgot a name, a face, or the stories that connected him to his roots. We are grateful for this as we are assured that his memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love that binds this family together.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Vittorio for the extraordinary life he led—a life filled with service, love, and a profound connection to those he held dear.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Natalie Allard. In the tender journey of illness, Natalie emerged as a compassionate beacon of solace and care for Vittorio. Natalie went beyond the duties of care, becoming a cherished companion to Vittorio providing a comforting presence that uplifted his spirits.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Jenkins and Jennifer Murray for their exceptional care of Vittorio over the years.

As per Vittorio's wishes, a private service has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made payable online or by cheque may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Vittorio's honour.
