MARTTINEN, Alpo Lennart

Passed away peacefully on August 12, 2011 at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario. He was born in Kovala, Finland, on July 22, 1932. He was married in Finland to Lea Laine. They moved to Canada in l957 where they raised their family. Alpo is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Lea, children Jon (Kim), Philip (Ruth), Harry (Inkeri), Rita (James) Muonio, Nora (Martin) Hendrickson, Helen (Doug) Sarkkinen, Melvin (Donna), Heidi (Scott) Sarkinen, Roy (Karen), Edwin (Carrie), Walter (Julie), Judy (Kevin) Sarkinen, Cindy (Ryan) Thompson and Paul (Sarah). Three sisters Elna Marttinen, Aune (Eino) Hiltinen, Armi Laitala. Two brothers, Aarne (Sirkka), Aaro (Anja). He was preceded in death by son Gary, brothers Yrjo and Eero, sisters Hanna Havaskari and Annikki Vainio. Alpo was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Friends may call at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 7 – 9 pm. Funeral service on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11 am. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
