It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harry Martin at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his 88th year.  He is survived by Colleen, his loving wife of 60 years. Loving father of Glen, Allison (Sean), Greig and Kirk (Jenny). He was a doting grandfather to Leif, Fiona, Liam and Ailish. He was a brother of the late Alfred (late Audrey), late James (Velma) and Bob (Rita). He was a close brother-in-law to Jean (late Randy), Myrna (Bill) and Bill (Lorie). He was a loving uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A loving nephew of the late Goldie Godson and also survived by his cousins Gail, Sandra, George and families. He will be missed by his furry pals, Molly, Maisy, Hennessy and Goldie.

Harry was born in Detroit, Michigan before his family moved to a farm in Iron Bridge, Ontario when he was 8 years old. He spent his childhood with his 3 brothers working on the farm. As an adult, he moved to Sault Ste Marie and worked at Algoma Steel for 10 years. His adventurous spirit took him to work throughout the United States travelling with his family for three  years. After moving back to Sault Ste Marie, he had a successful 25 year career as an electrician at Algoma Steel providing for his family.

Harry was a very kind and wonderful man who will be sadly missed. With his calm, quiet presence, he was always easy to be around. He had a great sense of humour and you could always count on a good ‘Dad joke’ to make others smile. His love for his family, selflessness, patience, honesty and strong work ethic is how he will be remembered.

Harry’s family would like thank Dr. Coccimiglio, Dr. George, Dr. Apostle, the ER and Unit 3C nurses and staff at the Sault Area Hospital and Elena from CBI homecare for the care and compassion given to Harry. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their love and support.

A Celebration of Life will follow in the summer. The details to be shared at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. - 705-759-2522). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Sault Area Hospital Foundation or NSHN Auxiliary-Matthews Site (payable by cheque or online) in memory of Harry.
