MANN, Doreen Isobel

Posted

Born September 8, 1921 in Sault Ste. Marie, the fifth, and only surviving child and loving daughter of the late Lucy (Cooper) and Victor Mann. Peacefully passed away February 6, 2007. She is predeceased by her siblings Ira Charles, Lillian May (Wilson, Cronin), Phyllis Mary (Dyke, Ewing) and Ronald Victor. Raised on Huron St. in the greenhouses and flower shop business built and developed by her parents. She was educated at King Edward P.S. and Sault Collegiate. Doreen worked as a bank teller during the war and later joined the family business as bookkeeper and floral designer until 1977. She was an enthusiastic traveler across Canada, United States and Europe, an avid reader, organizer, choir member with All People’s United, John Street United, Central United Churches and Senior Singers. She was a long time member of the Central United Church and a life time member of the U.C.W. Aunt Doreen remembered birthdays of family members with her famous Angel food cakes. Doreen loved planning for unit meetings and making jellies, jams and baking for church bazaars. She kept distant cousins informed of the coming and goings of the “Mann Clan”. Doreen faithfully remembered birthdays and special occasions and will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Melva and Robert Cochrane, Laura and Gerald Griswold, Kent Wilson, Lynda Dyke, Pamela Willinsky, Nancy and Gil Sachro, Kathryn and Robert Cooke, Susan Mann and John Symboluk, Geoffrey and Kenna Mann and their families in Ontario and Alberta. She is survived by her life long friends Florence Bookman, Eleanor McLeod, the late Beezie Reid and many others. At Aunt Doreen’s request there will be a memorial service, officiated by Mrs. Joy McPhee, in the Fireside Room at Central United Church (side door, Spring and Albert St.), Friday, Feburary 9, 2007 at 11:30 am followed by a reception. Her ashes will be interred with her parents in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Aunt Doreen loved putting on skits and singing songs in her younger years around a campfire or on car or bus trips. She was always game for a ride in the country and a Sunday picnic. Honour her memory with a few flowers to brighten your home, a wee picnic lunch or an old campfire song. If so desired a donation can be made to the Finnish Resthome Association or the New SAH Fund.
