Bruce Makila passed away suddenly on April 10th, 2023, doing one of the things he loved most - walking his dog Teddy. Bruce was 53 years old at the time of his passing.

Originally from Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Bruce was born on December 30th, 1969. He went on to study economics at Algoma University, the University of North Carolina Greensboro, the University of Alberta and the University of Wyoming. Along with his wife Joanne, who he met in school, he moved to Singapore, then Calgary, before settling down in Edmonton as his permanent home. Bruce took pride in his work in Revenue Forecasting at ATCO Gas, where he was an expert in his field and a role model for others. Bruce loved 80s rock music, watching hockey with his daughter, walking Teddy with the neighbours, and eating durian. He will be remembered as a devoted and protective husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Bruce was predeceased by his father George. He is survived by his wife Joanne; daughter Michelle; mother Mirja; siblings David (Vicky) and Marilyn (Mike).

A viewing for Bruce will be held at 12:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass on Friday, April 21st, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18407 60 Ave, Edmonton, AB. A livestream of the Mass will be available via Facebook.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in Bruce’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
